Local company
A sequence, not a single form
Registering a local company gives the business a legal name, a tax identity, and a licence to trade. Protecting an idea by copyright or patent is a separate filing. BRELA is the office named for that detail.
Steps for a local company
- 1 The business idea Registration makes a local venture easier to fund, licence, and hire for. A copyright or patent filing does not replace incorporation.
- 2 Certificate of incorporation The company comes into existence under the companies law.
- 3 TIN for an individual with a NIDA ID The founder’s taxpayer number, using the national identity number.
- 4 Company TIN The company’s taxpayer number, separate from the founder’s.
- 5 Tax clearance certificate Evidence that tax obligations are in order before a licence is issued.
- 6 Business licence Permission to trade in the local authority where the business sits.
- 7 Value-added tax Register for VAT when turnover reaches the threshold.
- 8 National social security Register employees with the national social security scheme.
- 9 Occupational safety and health Register the workplace with the safety authority.
- 10 Workers Compensation Fund Cover for injury at work.
